In order to highlight threatened historic resources in Providence, the Providence Preservation Society (PPS) compiles the annual Ten Most Endangered Properties List with the help of concerned members of the public. Each listed resource represents an important aspect of local community life and character. In a city known for its extraordinary architecture, unfortunately, many historic buildings are still threatened by factors such as neglect, insufficient funds, adverse public policy, and inappropriate development. Recent Lists have reflected the additional threats of continuing recession: foreclosure, low occupancy, and a lagging market.

The List’s purpose is to raise awareness of these issues and generate support for the preservation of these significant structures; to educate the public about the benefits of historic preservation and the unique architectural resources in our city; and to foster creative collaboration among property owners, developers and other interested parties to bring about positive changes in each property. This Wiki helps PPS to identify, document, and host discussion about the Ten Most Endangered Properties and other noteworthy historic preservation cases (whether saved, lost, or still struggling) in Providence.
